A big wild fire came in

We had a pretty ferocious late-season wild fire come onto our land, made worse by the very dry winter and strong wind. Thanks to the wonderful fourteen (!!!) rural and urban fire brigades, which came to help, it was contained after an intense battle. While the houses were saved, we did have some rather expensive losses.

Emerald Escape Camping has taken off!

We started taking bookings just before Christmas lasst year. Nine month later, our camping buisness is going very well with over 800 campers having enjoyed our place and almost all feedback is very positiv. Check out the pics some campers sent us!

Solar Pump installed on lake

This was a massive projects and took a lot of time and money, but now it is finished it gives us free water whenever the sun shines and gets water to many key areas of our property through over two kilometres of pipe.

Mountain Bike Magnet
Kanjini is getting known for its awesome mountain bike tracks, with several major mountain bike events involving hundreds of riders using it for their annual rides.We've got both very scenic tracks and some good challenges.

Extreme Rainfall Event - lake-side
Can you imagine, it rained so hard that at some stage we had about an extra 200 million litres of water in our big lake, turning the overflow into a torrent!

Extreme Rainfall Event - pump and roads
Just before Easter we had the biggest ever recorded rainfall event in our local area. We lost our electric pump for the houses and had some severe landslides and washouts on the tracks.

Lake-side landscaping looking good

Our Caretaker's site has been marked out

Camp Site 1 has been constructed

Last weekend we finished camp 1, which is on the side of the big 20 acre lake. We created a large flat area for cars or campervans to park and three smaller flat areas for tents or campervans as well as a cleared area on the lake.  ...........

Camp Site 6 has been constructed

A couple of days ago we created the track to camp 6 and cleared and leveled the camp area and its parking area. It was the first time we created a totally new track with our tractor and we had to move one quite large rock, ......

Camp Site 5

Today I slashed the track to camp 5 and cleared and leveled the camp area and its parking area. Camp 5 is in a very private and beautiful spot right on Emerald Creek. The camp site itself is only about 30m away from the creek, on a ledge...

Kanjini Co-Op's Adler Hill property found to be most climate resilient

JCU university recently published a large study looking at which areas of Australia are most resilient and which ones are least resilient to future climate change. And ours turns out to be one of the most climate resistant private properties in Queensland...

Camping Toilets

Chai and a few mates have been working hard on building and designing our first portable wheelie bin toilet structure that we can use at the camp sites or for events on Kanjini Land.

Walk to camp site 6 and above

This is a slightly challenging, but very rewarding hike, with about 450m in elevation to be gained over about 2km, so quite steep in sections. But the views near the top make up for this and the big rock-overhang cave on the way is a magic place!

Development Approval

On 4th March 2015 the long process of our first development approval has finally come to fruition!!!   We now have approval for two caretakers cottages and eleven private bush camping spots!
